I paint women, landscapes and abstracts in a fluid representational style vacil- lating between impressionist, expressionist and allusive. With little interest in photorealistic reproduction of that which exists beautifully in the world, I pre- fer to distill the essence of a subject.
I see beauty in uniqueness and strength in diversity, so I paint to illuminate those things. I find inspiration in the ocean, nature, landscapes, people and relationships. My iPhone stores scores of reference photos that enable me to incubate ideas and turn “what is” into “what if.”
I want my paintings to prompt curiosity, a gut reaction, or a new train of thought and consideration. I want to shift the paradigm and illustrate my subjects from a new perspective. I like to paint in layers, accentuate textures and use a variety of media, knives, brushes, hotel key cards and my fingers.
