ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Kathleen Jennette
I've been photographing for decades and am now retired, but I still shoot daily and enjoy the digital age of cameras. Everything changes, and so has photography.
If I were asked about my niche or style, I wouldn't have a straight answer. I go with the moment and only shoot what I like these days. The shot takes me to where I need to be, and I have to re-learn to 'see' every time I shoot an image. It never fails that what happens behind the lens is amazing. Inspirations:
Being a collector of old vintage postcards and photos has had a creative impact on my pictures. Many of my photos are in-camera with movement and multiple exposures. Early California artists have inspired me throughout my lifetime with paintings, and I try to capture that feeling in some of my photographs. My career also brought me to meet Edmund Teske, a photographer whose inspiration was critical for me to infuse a bit of moodiness in my photos. I can't leave out the black and white and retro feel either. I was in the darkroom with my brother in 1968 and loved every moment. I got a Polaroid, and only when running out of money did I not take a shot, which was often back then. Due to that, I had a Fujica camera from the 80s refurbished, and shooting with film is my new-old hobby.
Film is amazing, and the anticipation of developing is what it's all about. Black and white, color, ICM… I love it all.
My current cameras:
Canon r5
- Canon r6
