ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Jim Priest
Jim Priest is a nurse based in Southern California, with a passion for finding art in simple materials like charcoals, metals, acrylic and watercolors, paper, and even balsamic vinegar. , Jim Priest explores the intersection of emotions through textures.
Originally from Tri-Cities, Washington, Jim discovered his love of art when he began classes in the art of movement when taking dance at an early age. As an adult, art took a backseat as he raised his children and went to nursing school.
Art inspired him once again in adulthood when he saw the works of Alexander Calder. The use of metals and scraps, and what others would consider “junk” is actually twisted and welded into beautiful mobiles and sculptures. Jim infuses his work with common materials resulting in captivating pieces that provoke thought and evoke emotion. His art often reflects fashion and beauty through unconventional materials inviting viewers to contemplate sensuality.
When Jim moved to Southern California he continued to push the boundaries of his artistry by exploring new techniques and pushing the limits of his creativity.
