Description: Beneath the Surface offers a look into a hidden world, captured from a unique low-angle perspective. The photograph transforms the familiar pilings of a pier into a series of arches and shadows, creating a rhythm that guides the eye into the frame. The use of a long exposure softens the movement of the tide, which, along with the warm, luminous light, creates a harmonious atmosphere. This piece invites contemplation on the beauty that lies just beyond our ordinary view, offering a profound sense of connection.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Taylor Elam
Taylor Elam's journey from the demanding world of fine dining to the tranquil art of photography is a testament to a lifelong creative passion. For nearly two decades, Elam honed his craft as a professional chef, a career defined by precision, composition and presentation. This extensive experience, which included years collaborating with photographers in the culinary industry, provided a unique foundation for his visual storytelling career.
After nearly two decades in the kitchen, Elam reignited a long-lost passion for Fine Art Photography. A native of South Orange County, his deep connection to the ocean, fostered through a lifelong love of surfing and beach culture, made the natural world a perfect starting point. This profound relationship with the coast is now a central theme, vividly captured in his seascape, landscape and nature genres.
As an all-around creative, Elam's career is a tribute to his deep-seated love for the arts. Driven by a desire to constantly evolve, he embraces a diverse range of subjects and is always seeking new challenges. Elam creates images that are both visually compelling and deeply personal, thanks to a lens uniquely informed by a chef's precision with a surfer's soul.
