On a recent trip to Asia I observed many temples and gardens being tended by monks. Their loving attention was palpable. Upon seeing a tree stump on a separate occasion, I had a brief vision of the rings looking like delicately raked sand, as in a zen garden. As typically happens in the birth of an idea, these two visions merged somewhere in my imagination to illustrate this act of healing compassion.

Born in 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico, he draws from the Latin American genre of Magic Realism where symbolic and fantastic elements blend with realistic atmospheres, unveiling a world where anything is possible.
