ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Patricia Turner
Patricia is a self-taught artist with a smattering of formal and private instruction. She learned to render portraits with pencil and pastel, and paint Texas landscapes in oils and acrylics from how-to-draw and paint art books and privately studied with various Texas artists. In the late 80’s she moved to Los Angeles where her interests changed to abstraction and collage.
Intuitive Process:
When starting a new work, she energizes the canvas with black random marks, filling the negative areas. Then saturated colors are added and subtracted, large and small shapes are pushed around, areas of darks and lights are balanced as well as warms and cools. Layers and collage elements are constantly evaluated and values are studied until the painting takes on a personality and flow. This process keeps her work fun to do and constantly changing. For this reason, you will see examples of many genres in her artwork.
