Acrylic On Canvas
Artist’s statement For me, color emanates from all subject matter, whether live or inanimate. Nothing is ever static! The reality is not what I’m after. It is the never ending vitality in all things. It is an insatiable passion that is the driving force to create and it is always an emotional journey. Color, is the silent language that speaks to the soul! And so, in my world, an abundance of color is essential, and violating “the rules” is part of the adventure. I never anticipate the finality of a canvas, as I don’t necessarily continue in the direction in which I begin. It is the journey of creativity; and then the anticipation.....
How will the viewer perceive the work, and will they be touched by it. Artist’s bio A university graduate with a degree in art, I was trained in the use of various mediums as well as the human form. Originally an oil painter, I now work primarily in acrylics, often incorporating different gel mediums on an assortment of substrates. My past experiences (with oils) is apparent in my current work. I love nothing better than applying layer upon layer of paint for a very textured appearance. Water is rarely a component in my work. For me, color is exploding everywhere! And I want to capture it all. My body of work is evidence of my love for color. It is abundant and often applied with aggressive intent. My work has evolved from “day to day” realism into a more figurative and expressionistic style. This offers me unending freedom and a result open to interpretation. It makes for added interest, often unusual effects and a current, contemporary statement.
