Even as a child growing up in Lubbock, Texas, David Shipley never stopped drawing, never stopped painting. Focused on establishing himself as a skilled painter and sculptor, his formal art training included studying at the University of Texas/Austin, Texas Tech University/Lubbock, and Cal State/Long Beach.
California Artist, Shipley’s work strives to harness the visceral impact of abstract art so that it might best express his personal outlook on life. Over time, he transitioned from oils into his new medium of choice: acrylics. He feels they add an intense immediacy to his work. No matter the medium in which he works, however, Shipley has long been fascinated by color contrasts and their ability to invoke reaction and incite emotion. By applying a vibrant color scheme to his intense paintings and sculptors, his quixotic artwork is often somehow both kinetic and soothing at the same time. Clearly, he strives to create a separate reality, a parallel universe. Exhibiting since 1980, Mr. Shipley has had a dozen solo exhibitions and has participated in more than fifteen group shows. After maintaining a studio in Southern California since 1982, he moved his studio to Lake Chautauqua, NY in September, 2020 and introduced a new series of paintings
