Oil on Canvas
Renata Bosnjak was born in Bosnia and Hercegovina in 1976. She understood the essence of beauty from a very early age, and thus painted her first painting at age seven; of a girl holding a dog. She used the cover of a chocolate box, as her canvas. She turned something simple and throwaway into a vision of beauty, and from that moment in time, she understood that creating Art was going to be her life, forever. She grew up evolving through all of her personal and professional experiences, developing her love for her craft; and mastering her Artistry.
When Renata was 16 years old, her life and dreams changed dramatically, as war broke out in Bosnia. The next few years was met with struggles for food and the constant fear that her own life and the life of her loved ones, could be at risk. But luckily, the war suddenly ended in 1997, and she made the bold decision to move to America. So, as a refugee she ended up in Las Vegas; a very long way from her family and home. She was faced with learning a new language and culture, therefore, the struggle to make a new life and find a job was intense and very challenging, indeed. Brushes and paint turned into casino cards and chips, however, she did not give up on her dream to become an Artist. She is self taught, and has managed to develop her own style by using religion and realism, thus referencing old masters. But due to her everyday life to simply survive in America, Art become a mere hobby, for many years. She hoped that one day, that little girl's dream would become a reality and she would start living the life of a working Artist.
I believe that day has arrived. She is the ultimate observer, she turns ugly into smart and beautiful, with very little effort. And brings even more understandings to the old cliche "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." But in her case, she has allowed all to experience beauty the way it was intended by sharing the richness in her eyes, in the most exquisite way. Through her Art.
