ABOUT THE ARTIST:
THEO HAZE is a contemporary artist, working with many mediums but known for his spiritual figurative paintings best. He is currently living and working in Japan.
He has been climbing mountains with his father since he was 3 years old. The place felt sacred and mystical. It was something that can't be seen by the naked eye.
When he was in university of fine arts, he studied under Shozo Shimamoto of the GUTAI. Through his exploration of philosophy and religion that are deeply related to art, he studied mythology/folklore with going to the site. At the same time, he started Tsugaru shamisen (Japanese guitar instrument) for the quest of Japanese identity. After mystical experiences, he's wandering in the deep mountains with his Shamisen instrument and did a dedication performance for nature, mostly alone for 20 years. Shamisen serves as a shamanic drum to encourage dialogue with the land, has inspired him to create his art pieces which represent energy flow or quanta.
He thinks he has received a lot of inspiration from nature through such dedication performances. He believes people will fall into a disharmonious condition if they stay away too much from nature. It is very important for him to keep connecting with nature and the universe by climbing the mountain and maintaining a good condition of the river behind his art studio. So we can see his distinctive perception of energy flow and recognition of the universe in his artworks.
He had many exhibitions and his collectors are in Japan, France, Hong Kong and the United States.
