ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Teri Starkweather
Teri Starkweather became known for her still life watercolor paintings which are bathed in sunlight in the 1990s. Her realistic watercolors have been included in many watercolor books. One of her works graced the cover of "Textures and Surfaces", published by North Light Publishers in 2000. Inside of "Painting the Many Moods of Light", published by North Light in 1999, Starkweather demonstrated her painting technique in a chapter called "create sparkling window lit still life in watercolor". She is a signature member of Watercolor West and a member of the National Watercolor Society and Laguna Beach Plein Air Painters.
Artspeak, a New York Gallery Guide, wrote about Starkweather's work: "Precise in her use of watercolor, Starkweather fully exploits the luminous transparency of the medium to portray strong expansive forms."

Teri won the American Artist cover competition with her watercolor painting "Sunflowers and Coffee", which was on the cover of the June 2010 issue of American Artist Watercolor magazine.
She has studied at Art Center College of Design, Atlanta College of Art, and California State University at Northridge. She worked as a scenic artist for several different television networks before going back to school to get a masters in art education. Starkweather has taught painting in her studio, as well as in high schools, and is currently painting full time, working on her artwork.
Teri is interested in the nature as well as portraying luminous images. Her latest abstract painting is inspired by photos from outer space taken by Hubble and ocean seascapes. These pieces are on canvas and have a thick texture and rich surface with metallic mixed media and poured acrylic paint in places.Teri embraces the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese aesthetic world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection.
She has shown her artwork in various galleries throughout the United States and also internationally in Italy and China. Teri has exhibited at the Oceanside Museum, Springfield Art Museum, Westmont Museum of Art, Lancaster Museum of Art, Riverside Art Museum, Downey Museum of Art, and Brea Gallery, California. In 2011 she had a solo show at James Gray Gallery in Bergamot Station, Santa Monica, California.
