ARTIST STATEMENT:
Lisa Benken
I am originally from Cocoa, Florida, moved to Southern California in 1994. I was an accountant for 20+ years, when in 2014, tragedy struck, my boyfriend died suddenly in my arms. I turned to art for comfort. It helped overcome the grief and I began to realize art was more than therapy, it was a passion. I taught myself by watching others and reading books. I can see my mood in every painting and I love how it expresses my emotions. I love learning new mediums but always lean towards my favorite, acrylic on canvas. I realize now art is meant to be a part of my life and am blessed to have found it. It’s been life changing and Comforting to know I can express my feelings and thoughts through art.
