ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Janet Bothne’s artwork focuses on the malleable physicality of paint as a conduit to expression and emotion. Having worked much of her life with realism, she found her artistic center when she let go of representational work and allowed color to be the subject matter. “It’s a universal language and a portal to memory and mood,” she explains. “It’s light held captive, and offers an insight into our imagination. I never tire of the possibilities it presents.”
Since 2000, she has exhibited in numerous venues across the country—and now has hundreds of collectors throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Born near Boston, Bothne studied art at the University of MA at Amherst as well as UCLA, and Brentwood Art Center in California.
She relocated to New Mexico in 2013. She now works from her studio in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque.
