Stella Singleton-Jones Artist Bio I am a native of Los Angeles, California and my art training includes attending Otis Art Institution , Santa Monica Jr. College and UCLA. My art career has kept me well rounded and balance with life’s challenges. All my life I have been an art enthusiast. In 2007, after recovering from a debilitating disease, I returned to my first love of stone sculpting. The inspiration for my sculptures comes from the strength shown by passionate individuals and God’s earthly creation. My gift has earned me several coveted exhibition opportunities. Most recently my sculptures were exhibited at the Oscars, Emmys, MTV, and ESPY Award pre-shows. Additionally, one of the high points of my career occurred in 2008 when my sculpture, Unity, was selected to be displayed in the White House. Now the (Unity) sculpture is a permanent art piece in the White House as of 2009. My stone sculptures represent strength, harmony, calmness, and peacefulness to enhance the beauty in life as an inspiration to others to never give up on one’s dream.
Artist Statement Stella Singleton-Jones My name is Stella Singleton-Jones and my art career started when I was in the 8th grade at John Burroughs Jr. High ,I won first placed prize for an internship program at Otis Art Institution. Otis Art Institution recommended me to attend Santa Monica High School, because they had the best art department in the state. Once,, I planted my foot down at Santa Monica Jr. College and discovered my true talent in the art world would be as an abstract stone sculptor. My stone sculpture career started to blossom then came crashing down in a spiral effect due to the death of my brother Derek Singleton,.then on January 16, 1996 I was stricken down with the same Spinal Mennigities, which left me in a coma for two and a half weeks, I had to endure several years of physical therapy. . My doctor at that time stated HOW DARE you give up on life, then shouted , you should go back to school for physical therapy and interact with others. I remember my study in college was the arts. So I got down on my knees at home and said to God if this is what you want me to endure, then the art world I will give my all, as long as I am able to inspire others not to give up on their dreams, In resuming my art career in 2007 I am proud to say, I have accomplished something special , which can never be taken away from me in this life, that my Unity stone sculpture which I created in April 2009 is now in the White House sitting on a desk inside the Oval Office . What a blessing and a dream come true!!!!
