My name is Shellise Berry and I was born in 1964 and I am 53 years old. When I was in 3rd grade I began to take an interest in art. I began drawing at every available opportunity. During high school, I enrolled in an art class, which continued my interest in art. In August of 1982, I enrolled at Oklahoma State University, with a major in Veterinary Medicine. After a year of biology and chemistry classes, I decided I was more interested in art and switched my major to Graphic Design. I pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., my senior year, and graduated in 1986 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and a minor in Sociology. During the year of 2011, I began searching for healing programs that involved art. I came across the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association and that led me to the Expressive Arts Training Institute in Newport Beach. The training provided a professional certification upon completion of the yearlong training. I began the program in February of 2012. One of my fellow classmates bought me a book on intuitive painting. I followed the process and created my first acrylic painting “Fruit.’ This began my love of acrylic painting. I graduated at the end of January of 2013. The course was amazing and quite enlightening and my creative process had been transformed. Five years later, I am still in love with acrylic painting. I would describe my style of painting as partial abstraction, a combination of Fauvism and Cubism. I am currently in my 30th year of employment with Los Angeles County. I have been married for 25 years and have a 29 year old son from my first marriage and a 15 year old son with my current husband. It is my endeavor to obtain representation and have my art displayed worldwide.
“Visual Interpreter of Love.” Love is everything! And God is love. It is my goal to interpret and portray God’s love through the art of painting. The short drying process of acrylic paint makes it a perfect medium for applying quick renderings in response to the voice of divine inspiration. My paintings speak of the ultimate message of God’s love for mankind. Each work is intended to inspire and evoke an emotional response as the observer discovers he is loved by God.
