Kathy Jo Braceland was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. She moved to Los Angeles in the early '80's to work in the music industry. After over a decade of working with numerous and wonderful musicians, she decided to pick up her own artistic career where she left off back home. She first embarked on a career as a cartoonist, which she accomplished for a few years in several small newspapers throughout the USA. She expanded her art career and began testing the waters with pen and ink. Her main medium is ink but she also dabbles in watercolours and acrylics. Not wanting to be known for a single genre, her styles include surrealism, realism, abstracts, cartoons, skeletons and other funky art. When asked why, she said "Because I can."
I am frequently asked for interpretations of my art. Or, viewers will tell me what my art means and ask if they're right. To me, art is a very personal thing...not just for the artist but to the person viewing it. Art evokes, provokes feelings and/or communicates to each individual in their own personal way. Therefore, I never interpret what anyone "should" see in a piece of art.
