I earned my degree in Fine Arts at California State University, Fullerton. As a student, I had the great privilege of watching "artists in residence" such as Nathan Olivera, Cuevas, and Wayne Tibold at work. They as well as the works of Picasso, Gaughin and Jackson Pollock were a big influence on my life. During those early years, I began experimenting with different textures and papers, which led to my works in collage. Several years ago, I began painting portraits of women with red cheeks, and continue to explore the female figure, while striving to capture the subject's emotional center or personal moment.
Painting is very personal to me. I need to feel a strong connection with my subject in order to paint. Hopefully, as others view my work, they too will feel some sort of connection, perhaps be reminded of someone or something.
